ROTAX Max Challenge - Germany (round #3) & Austria (round #4)

Motorsportsarena Stefan Bellof, Oppenrod GERMANY - July 5, 2015

RMC PODIUM FOR TEAM VPDR DRIVERS DREYSPRING & GRUBER

The combined Austrian and German Rotax Max Challenge rounds (3 & 4 respectively) moved north of Frankfurt to the Motorsportsarena Stefan Bellof at Oppenrod on July 5. This circuit always provides action in the racing and the weekend temperatures helped to heat-up the competition when the mercury rose above 40°C.

Defending German title-holder Christopher Dreyspring was a front-runner all weekend in Senior Max after qualifying 2nd in the first group behind VPDR team-mate Felix Kotyk, who won the previous round at Ampfing. Dreyspring ran within the top 4 in all the races Sunday and drove well to take 3rd in the final and lead the championship now by 61 points. He finished 2nd in the German RMC ranking, one place ahead of VPDR team-mate Michael Gruber, who overcame some technical issues early on to start the final on grid 6. He took 4th at the chequered flag and sits on P4 in the series standings.

Seniors was again very competitive in the 35-entry class. VPDR’s Felix Kotyk was hoping to repeat his victory from round 3 and set fastest lap in group 1 of official timed practice to be 5th overall. The 16-year old won his first heat with best race lap and confidently took 3rd in heat 2 plus the pre-final. A disappointing start in the final saw him run wide, but come through to finish 8th so 2nd in the Austrian RMC standings. Daniel Machacek also set out to secure another RMC podium, taking 3rd ahead of German team-mate Dreyspring in race 1, then 6th in heat 2. However, the Austrian was crashed out of contention in the pre-final and failed to finish the final from the back.

The race for the Austrian national Rotax Max title sees the senior VPDR rookies Felix Kotyk in 2nd and Daniel Machacek 3rd – with just one round remaining in September.

In Rotax DD2, Jan MR-Wünschek was looking to regain his earlier season form. The driver from Vienna ran mid-field during the qualifying, later finding his best speed in time for the finals where he took P7 and was 2nd in the points for the Austrian RMC. He’s still placed 2nd in the championship tally with the last round scheduled for Kerpen.

Anna-Lisa Dreyspring returned to racing in the 2-speed class at Oppenrod after recently completing her senior school studies and out of the kart since last October. Lissy was the best of the team’s DD2 line-up in qualifying and also by ranking 9th after the heats. Running in the top 10, she had a less fortunate start to the final that left the lady driver from Nuremburg having to settle for P15… despite her efforts to advance.

German DD2 rookie Marius Rauer came on board with race support from VPDR at the round 3 meeting, where he had his own battles during the racing to eventually be 19th in the final in the field of 28 starters. He confirmed that he would join the Austrian team at the Wackersdorf edition of the Rotax Max Euro Challenge later in the month.

The next round of the German RMC goes to Wittgenborn on August 9 and the deciding Austrian RMC will be in September at Kerpen, again combined with the German series.
